Program Description:
The Bachelor of Science/Master of Teaching (Secondary) program at Deakin University is designed to provide students with a robust and well-rounded education in science and education. The program consists of three key components:
Science Studies:
Students will complete 24 credit points of coursework in science, including core units in science, mathematics, laboratory and fieldwork safety, and career tools for employability. Students will also select a major sequence in one of the following areas: Animal Biology, Cell Biology and Genomics, Human Biology, Plant Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Food Science, or Mathematical Modelling.
Teaching Studies:
Students will complete 12 credit points of coursework in education, including core units in language, literacies, and learning; numeracy, social justice, and new pedagogies; health, wellbeing, and inclusive education; and professional experience placements. Students will also complete two curriculum study units in a first teaching method area and two curriculum study units in a second teaching method area.
Professional Experience:
Students will complete 60 days of supervised professional experience in school settings.
