Overview
The Post Diploma in Big Data Analytics (PDDA) is a 10-course, flexible 30-credit program that enables PDDA students to complete courses in data analytics that are linked to industry certifications and address both immediate and future workforce needs.
Admissions Requirement
- Recognized diploma or degree in a relevant career area or, completion of 90 credits in a relevant career area from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Be at least 19 years of age or older at the start of the program.
- Meets one of the options below where English is a principle language:
- Option 1 – Completion of 2 years of full-time post-secondary education from a recognized institution where English is the language of instruction, or
- Option 2 – Provide verified results for one of the English language proficiency tests listed below. Test results will be dated no more than 2 years before the start date of the program.
- IELTS (Academic): Minimum overall score of 6.0
- TOEFL IBT: Minimum overall score of 68
- Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) General: 7.0
- Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Test: 50
- Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: 46
- Duolingo English Test (DET): 105
- Cambridge English Qualifications: B2 First Exam (FCE): Minimum overall score of 160 or “C”
- Cambridge Linguaskill: Minimum overall B2 Level
- LANGAGECERT Academic: Minimum overall B2 level
- The Michigan English Test (MET): Minimum overall B2 level
- ITEP Academic: Minimum overall score of 3.5
- EIKEN: Minimum placement of Grade Pre-1
Mature student applicants:
- Applicant is 19 years or older at the start of the program and is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident who cannot access is their educational records or provide sufficient evidence of secondary or post-secondary education as outlined above:
- Applicant provides attestation that they have completed at least three years of full-time instruction in English in a country where the English is one of the principal languages, and
- Applicant completes an Accuplacer English Assessment (Next Generation: Reading, Writing and WritePlacer) and achieves the following minimum scores:
- Reading: 235
- Writing: 235
- WritePlacer: 4
Required Curriculum
The Post Diploma in Big Data Analytics is a 10-course, 600-hour, 30-credit program that can be completed in 30 weeks via in-class and/or online instruction which enables students to complete the course content and related requirements in the most efficient and effective manner possible. The 10-course PDDA program is efficiently delivered over the course of two semesters.
Graduation Requirement
To graduate from this program, students must complete all program requirements including those identified below:
- Complete a minimum of 30 credits.
- Attend at least 75% of program lectures/classes.
- Pass each individual course with 50% or higher.
- Achieve a minimum program 2.50 AGPA.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this program the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the programming languages and tools involved in data analysis and visualization such as Python, R, SQL, and JavaScript.
- Discuss the strategic and operational value of using data for decision-making and how to utilize data analysis techniques to improve decision-making.
- Understand the principles of data warehousing and database management.
- Discuss how to identify relevant data sources and create analytical data sets.
- Demonstrate knowledge of data mining and pattern recognition.
- Demonstrate an understanding and ability to clearly/effectively communicate data analysis results and information to a diverse organizational audience.

Post Diploma in Big Data Analytics was reviewed and approved by the Registrar of the Private Training Institutions Regulatory Unit (PTIRU) of the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills.

This innovative program enables PGDA students to gain foundational knowledge, insight, and understanding of big data analytics as it relates to data and business analytics, networking, databases, cybersecurity, and cloud computing as well as important employability and life skills including but not limited to critical thinking, problem solving, communications, collaboration, teamwork, ethics, and legal issues.

Program Description:
The PGDA program enables students to complete a range of big data and business analytics, information technology, and cybersecurity courses that will help to inform their decisions regarding their future field of study and/or career path. PGDA students will also be able to select courses that will inform and assist them to develop expertise in database management and advanced data analytics that will enable students to develop a strong technical foundation from which they may pursue advanced study at the degree, graduate degree, and/or professional level.

- This is based on new PTIB policy guidelines for use of the term “Post-graduate” in a program title. The program must meet both of the following criteria: The admission requirements of a post-graduate program must include at minimum a baccalaureate degree, and Content must be at a post-baccalaureate level.
Language Proficiency Requirements:
In addition to the general entry requirements, international students whose first language is not English must provide proof of English language proficiency. This can be done by submitting a TOEFL or IELTS score. The minimum TOEFL score for admission is 550 (paper-based) or 80 (internet-based). The minimum IELTS score for admission is 6.5.
