Costume Design Concentration
Introduction
The Costume Design Concentration at Marymount Manhattan College is designed for students who are passionate about theatre and want to develop their skills in costume design. The program provides strong conservatory training in a robust theatre program while earning a well-rounded college experience.

What You Will Learn
- You’ll learn to curate costume choices through script and character analysis and practice the art and craft of presenting a character’s visual story.
- You’ll develop drawing and painting skills to communicate your ideas and concept.
- You’ll develop a professional portfolio for a career in the entertainment industry or for application to graduate school.
- You’ll have the opportunity to design the costumes for productions in our Theresa Lang Theatre.
Program Highlights
Hands-On Experience
The Costume Lab is a fantastic resource for practicing your craft. Students will have the opportunity to design and build costumes for both Dance and Theatre performances utilizing Lab resources and close faculty mentorship.
Exciting Internships
Experience working as an intern in New York theatre, film, and television. Design and Technology students have worked at Saturday Night Live art department, New York Public Theatre shops, The Lighting Syndicate, David Korins Studio, and other professional designers.
Senior Design Showcase
All design students take a senior seminar course where they get to collaborate on large projects and develop digital portfolios to present to potential employers or graduate school applications — giving them the edge on post-graduation career development.
Careers and Outcomes
Marymount Manhattan College theatre alumni are working on Broadway, off-Broadway, in television, in film, at regional theaters, and everywhere in between. Many of our students also go on to graduate schools across the country and the world.
