Program Overview
Mercy University's Master of Science in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program prepares candidates for initial or professional certification in teaching ESL. Track I candidates complete a 15-week student teaching experience, while Track II candidates engage in 20 days of clinical practice. The program covers essential topics such as education, cultural perspectives, linguistics, and language development, equipping graduates for careers in K-12 schools, language institutes, and other settings worldwide.

Degree Overview:
The Master of Science in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program at Mercy University leads to initial/professional certification. Track I candidates (who are seeking their first teaching certificate) must complete the 15-week New York State required student teaching experience. Track II candidates (who have a NYS teaching certificate in another content area) must complete 20 days of clinical practice experience within an ESL Pre-K–12 school environment. Professional Certification in New York State requires three years of teaching experience.
