Course Information

Course Description

This program provides students with an understanding of how the financial markets operate, the key players, and the issues they are currently facing. Throughout this course, students will be exposed to various elements of the financial world, including money and banking, and the different types of financial markets and instruments used in this industry. An important underlying aspect of this course is the Maltese laws and regulations that govern the industry.

Target Group

• Learners who wish to widen access to higher education and improve career prospects within the finance sector.
• This qualification is ideal for learners who have obtained the matriculation certificate or relevant qualification at MQF/EQF Level 4 and would like to pursue a progression route to a degree-level study in Finance.
• It is also suitable for mature learners who are currently employed and wish to change or advance their career in the financial services industry.

  • Introduction to Finance (Core Module, 250 Learning Hours, 10 ECTS Credits)
  • Introduction to Money and Banking (Core Module, 250 Learning Hours, 10 ECTS Credits)
  • Financial Markets (Core Module, 250 Learning Hours, 10 ECTS Credits)
  • Financial Services Law and Regulation (Core Module, 250 Learning Hours, 10 ECTS Credits)
  • Equity Derivatives (Core Module, 250 Learning Hours, 10 ECTS Credits)
  • Accounting for Bankers (Optional Module, 200 Learning Hours, 8 ECTS Credits)
  • International Banking (Optional Module, 200 Learning Hours, 8 ECTS Credits)
  • Introduction to Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing, and Sanctions (Core Module, 250 Learning Hours, 10 ECTS Credits)

How You Will Learn

This diploma is delivered with a flexible classroom-based method, through a variety of course materials, case studies, discussions, presentations, enquiry-based learning, and problem-solving activities.

Assessment

Formative Assessment

• The goal of formative assessment is to monitor student learning to provide ongoing feedback that can be used by lecturers to improve their teaching and by students to improve their learning and development.

Summative Assessment

• Assessments will be designed according to the guidelines of each module specification.
• In general, the assessments will enable learners to demonstrate achievement of learning outcomes across the individual elements of the program.

  • This program offers both variety and flexibility, ensuring that the learning and assessment activities are relevant and of value for future progression.
  • Throughout this program, learners are continuously and actively involved in all teaching methods, including lectures, hands-on activities, seminars, workshops, and enquiry-based learning.

Grading System

• Grading will be based on – Pass – Merit – and Distinction.
• Resits will be permitted for each respected assignment and module. No more than two resits are permitted to the student, and the grading will be only a Pass.

Entry Requirement

• Relevant qualification at MQF/EQF level 4 which includes a module on Research Methods; OR
• Relevant qualification at MQF/EQF level 4 and Research Methods as a module; OR
• Relevant qualification at MQF/EQF level 4 and work experience in conducting first-hand research; OR
• At least 3-year relevant Industry Experience as defined in Domain Academy’s RPL which includes work experience in conducting first-hand research.
