The Foundations at VU program provides a solid academic foundation through core units in writing and communication, along with discipline-specific units in various fields. Delivered through a combination of in-person classes and modern laboratory sessions, the program prepares students for further study in undergraduate degrees or higher education diplomas in a wide range of disciplines. Course Structure:

  • The Foundations at VU course requires completion of four units:
  • Two core units:
  • Introduction to Academic Writing (JYU0002)
  • Communication, Culture, and Media (JYU0003)
  • Two discipline-specific units (select two from the list below):
  • Mathematics - Algebra, Functions, Graphs of Function (JYU0004)
  • Mathematics - Probability and Statistics (JYU0005)
  • Introduction to Business Management and Marketing (JYU0006)
  • International Perspectives - Globalisation, People, and the Environment (JYU0007)
  • Human Biology (JQU0018)
  • Chemistry: It Matters (JQU0015)
  • Students may also be advised to take a Mathematics unit to meet entry requirements for certain undergraduate degrees or higher education diplomas.

Course Delivery:

  • Each unit involves five hours of in-person learning per week, divided into a two-hour class and a three-hour class.
  • Science units take place at the Footscray Park Campus in modern laboratories.
  • Other units are delivered at the City Campus.

Teaching:

  • Students are supported by experienced and caring educators.
  • Program educator, Brigitte Friedrich, has over 30 years of experience in education and aims to create relevant, engaging, and technology-integrated learning experiences.
  • The program fosters trusting relationships and encourages a love of learning.
