Program Overview
The Food Handling Skill Set program at Victoria University equips individuals with the skills and knowledge to prevent food-borne illnesses and ensure food safety in food-related roles. Through hands-on training, eLearning, and operational experience in a training restaurant, participants gain practical skills in food handling, preparation, storage, and disposal. Upon completion, they receive a Statement of Attainment, enabling them to work in food handling roles in the tourism, hospitality, and catering industries.

- The Food Handling Skill Set SITSS00068 at Victoria University prepares individuals for work in restaurants, catering, cafes, and other food-related roles.
- This skill set is suitable for those who handle food in kitchens, small food-preparation areas, or bars in tourism, hospitality, or catering.
- The program provides hands-on skills and knowledge to prevent food-borne illnesses, including identifying and reporting food hazards, safe food handling, safe preparation and storage of food items, service and disposal of food, and laws and regulations related to food preparation.
- The skill set is delivered over one (1) day via face-to-face training on campus in a classroom and VenU, Victoria University's training restaurant open to both staff and the general public.
- The operational training allows participants to learn and apply their skills in a fully-equipped hospitality training environment.
- There is also a facilitator-led eLearning training and assessment component, and participants will undertake structured learning activities in their own time.
- Basic computer skills are useful but not essential for accessing the eLearning.

Entry Requirements:
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. As part of the application process, applicants must complete a Pre-training Review (PTR) to determine suitability for admission. Students require basic computer skills to access eLearning material. This is demonstrated via the online application process and discussed in the PTR.
