OTHM Level 5 Extended Diploma in Accounting and Business

Course Description

Accounting and Finance are at the very heart of business operations. From banking to manufacturing, from huge service industries to micro businesses, the ability to manage, plan and account for money is still the ultimate measure of business success and the key driver of growth.


The objective of the OTHM Level 4 Diploma in Accounting and Business qualification is to provide learners with an understanding of accounting and business in the broader business context, and to provide them with the practical, industry-focused skills to manage business finances, budgets and cash flow effectively, and to play a key role in business growth.


The objective of the OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Accounting and Business qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills required by a middle manager in an organisation that may be involved in financial management, financial planning and control, financial reporting, taxation and people management.


The Level 4 modules and assignments of this course are equivalent to the first year of a University Degree and the Level 5 modules and assignments are equivalent to the second year of a University Degree.


This course is made up of 6 Level 4 modules (120 UK Credits/60 ECTS) and 6 level 5 modules (120 UK Credits/60 ECTS), for a total of 240 UK Credits/120 ECTS for both levels. Each level also includes 6 written assignments. If a student decides to only study at Level 4 they will receive 60 ECTS (120 UK credits) and can apply for an exemption from the first year of a university Degree course.


Delivery

This Diploma is a lecture based course held at eie Institute of Education in St. Julians with fixed starting dates throughout the Academic year.


The course is also offered on an Online basis for students who require flexibility to study. Online courses may be started any time throughout the year. On application, kindly indicate your preferred system of studies.


Eligibility

To enrol onto the Level 4 course, you must be at least 18 years of age and have a full secondary education together with an accounting background at Level 3 or A Level standard. Before enrolling onto the Level 5 course, you must have attained a Level 4 or equivalent in the same subject.

The Level 5 Diploma in Accounting and Business has been developed with career progression and professional recognition in mind.


Both Diplomas are ideal for anyone who wishes to embark into an Accounting Technician or Bookkeeping career.

The Level 4 & Level 5 Diploma in Accounting and Business are awarded by OTHM and both recognised by MFHEA at MQF/EQF Level 5 at 60 ECTS per level. This is an approved foreign higher education programme.


Assessment

The OTHM Level 4/5 Diploma in Accounting and Business has 6 modules and 6 written assignments at each level. On completion of the modules, students will be given the assignment questions. The assignments are approximately 2000 words each.
