Overview
This module provides learners with the ability to understand the growing importance of building sustainable business practices due to the increasing demand for products and services which provide less harm to the environment.
Awarding Body & Accreditation
This qualification is awarded by eie Institute of Education and is accredited by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA). MFHEA deems this Award to be at MQF Level 5 (12 ECTS) of the Malta Qualifications Framework and the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning.
Learning Outcomes
Competences
At the end of the course, the learner will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to:
- Monitor trends and challenges being faced by organisations when it comes to the implementation of sustainable practices
- Be responsible for the implementation of business practices which align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
- Create effective plans and actions to become a sustainable business
- Be responsible for the implementation of effective leadership in sustainable business practices
Knowledge
At the end of the course, the learner will have been exposed to the following:
- Have knowledge and expertise on the term sustainability and what it encompasses
- Have knowledge of the need for organisations to incorporate sustainable practices in their core principles
- Examine both the internal and external sustainable practices for organisations
- Critically list and analyse in detail the different internal processes such as recycling programmes, electric fleet, and choosing 'greener’ options in general
- Critically list and analyse in detail different external processes such as using ‘greener’ materials based on how they are sourced, and choosing ‘greener’ suppliers overall
- Examine the potential benefits of sustainable practice such as reducing costs, generate positive marketing, sourcing potential funding from government schemes for greener practices and possibly becoming a supplier of choice for individuals who value sustainable practices
- Critically examine ways and methods to be able to implement sustainable practices at the workplace
- Have knowledge of the potential use of implementing lean supply chain management in an organisation to become more sustainable
- Critically examine the importance of sustainable stakeholders’ management and engagement
- Demonstrate understanding of the importance of leadership in implementing sustainable business practice
Skills
At the end of the course, the learner will have acquired the following skills:
- Apply various environmental sustainability practices within a business context
- Use technology to facilitate sustainable business practice
- Measure the impact that sustainable business practice has on the overall organisation
- Apply effective leadership techniques to aid in the implementation of sustainable business practice
Programme Description
This course shall be taught with a student-centred approach whereby learners are encouraged to take active participation in their own learning. Learners shall be presented with PowerPoint presentations, case-study examples, and other interactive learning materials. Students will be asked to discuss and exchange communication amongst each other (classroom or online, as per learning mode chosen).
Assessment
This module shall be assessed with an assignment (75%) whereby learners are expected to present an original piece of work including properly referenced literature and practical examples. The assignment has a word count limit of 1,500 words (25%). Learners are also expected to undergo a classroom assessment including discussions, multiple-choice assessments and/or observation (25%). Moreover, learners are expected to obtain a minimum of 50% of the total mark to successfully pass from the course.

- Total lecture hours: 60
- Fees: €1,500.00 (EU & Non-EU Nationals)
- Get Qualified Scheme: Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to recover (if eligible) up to 70% (through tax credits) of expenses on both the registration and tuition fees paid when starting the course.
