Programme Description
This course equips learners with the necessary skills and knowledge to fully comprehend the importance and need for tourism policy and planning. It will allow learners to fully comprehend that successful tourism management cannot exist without the effective policy planning and implementation.
Awarding Body & Accreditation
This qualification is awarded by eie Institute of Education and is accredited by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA). MFHEA deems this Award to be at MQF Level 6 (12 ECTS) of the Malta Qualifications Framework and the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning.

Competences
- Ensure compliance with tourism plans and policies issued nationally and internationally
- Monitor shifts and changes in policies and plans regarding tourism and hospitality
- Create plans for the implementation of sustainable tourism and hospitality practices
Knowledge
- Critically define and discuss ‘tourism policy and planning’ and examine key concepts of policy and planning
- Examine and analyse the different components addressed in policy and planning such as accommodation, attractions and activities, transportation facilities and other infrastructure
- Critically compare and contrast between different levels of tourism planning such as local, regional, national and international
- Analyse ways in which tourism policy can be transformed into reality through the implementation of successful planning
- Have knowledge of the critical factors and characteristics which influence and shape tourism policy
- Reflect on the stakeholders which shape and influence tourism and hospitality policy
- Assess the importance to implement sustainable tourism and hospitality practices

Teaching Methodology
This course shall be taught with a student-centred approach whereby learners are encouraged to take active participation in their own learning. Learners shall be presented with PowerPoint presentations, case-study examples, and other interactive learning materials. Students will be asked to discuss and exchange communication amongst each other (classroom or online, as per learning mode chosen).
Assessment
This module shall be assessed with an assignment (75%) whereby learners are expected to present an original piece of work including properly referenced literature and practical examples. The assignment has a word count limit of 2,000 words. Learners are also expected to undergo a classroom assessment including discussions, multiple-choice assessments and/or observation (25%). Moreover, learners are expected to obtain a minimum of 50% of the total mark to successfully pass from the course.

- Total lecture hours: 60
- Fees: €1,800.00 (EU & Non-EU Nationals)
- Get Qualified Scheme: Upon Successful completion of this course, you will be able to recover (if eligible) up to 70% (through tax credits) of expenses on both the registration and tuition fees paid when starting the course.
