Program Overview


The Environmental Studies Minor at UMSL is an interdisciplinary program that combines natural and physical sciences with social sciences and humanities to address current environmental issues. The minor requires a minimum of 18 credit hours, divided into two categories: natural and physical sciences and social sciences and humanities. Students must take at least 9 credit hours from each category, with a total of 12 credit hours at the 2000 level or above and one additional course at or above the 3000 level.

Program Content and Structure

The Environmental Studies Minor is an interdisciplinary program that combines natural and physical sciences with social sciences and humanities to address current environmental issues resulting from human population growth, global climate change, overuse of natural resources, pollution, and biodiversity loss. The minor requires a minimum of 18 credit hours, divided into two categories: natural and physical sciences and social sciences and humanities. Students must take at least 9 credit hours from each category, with a total of 12 credit hours at the 2000 level or above and one additional course at or above the 3000 level (excluding POL SCI 3480). At least 9 credit hours must be taken while enrolled at UMSL. A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required for the minor.
