K-12 Teacher Leader Graduate Certificate
Admission Requirements
Applicants must meet general University of Missouri-St. Louis Graduate School admissions requirements and have active teacher certification. Preferred candidates have teaching experience. Students may submit application materials at any time; however, applications will be reviewed twice annually: October 1 and March 1.
Certificate Requirements
Students are required to take 15 credit hours in three areas:
- Foundations
- Knowledge/Concepts
- Skills All courses must be taken at the University of Missouri - St. Louis.
Foundations
- ED ADM 6717: Instructional Coaching for K-12 Teacher Leaders (3 credits)
Knowledge/Concepts
Choose three of the following (9 credits):
- ED ADM 6701: Leadership for Equity
- ED ADM 6702: Supervision in Education Organizations
- ED ADM 6704: Data-Driven Instruction and Team Leadership I
- ED ADM 6705: School Culture I
Skills
Choose one of the following (3 credits):
- Curriculum: TCH ED 6411: Curriculum Leadership in Education
- STEM:
- ELE ED 6431: STEM Instruction in Elementary Education
- SEC ED 6431: STEM Instruction in Secondary Education
- Literacy:
- ELE ED 6684: Instructional Strategies for Teaching Reading
- TCH ED 6880: Leadership in the Teaching of Writing

Program Details
The K-12 Teacher Leader Graduate Certificate is designed to provide teachers with the knowledge, skills, and concepts necessary to become effective leaders in their schools and districts. The program consists of 15 credit hours, divided into three areas: Foundations, Knowledge/Concepts, and Skills. The Foundations area provides a basis for understanding instructional coaching, while the Knowledge/Concepts area offers courses in leadership, supervision, data-driven instruction, and school culture. The Skills area allows students to choose from a range of courses focused on curriculum, STEM education, or literacy. All courses must be taken at the University of Missouri - St. Louis, and applications are reviewed twice annually. The program is open to applicants who meet the general University of Missouri-St. Louis Graduate School admissions requirements and have active teacher certification, with preferred candidates having teaching experience.
