Pathway Programs
Overview
A Pathway Program, as defined by the U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) is, “A postsecondary program of study combining credit-bearing and developmental ESL coursework to prepare a student who is unable to meet the English proficiency standards for admission.” IAU’s Undergraduate Pathway and Graduate Pathway program combines English as a Second Language (ESL), college preparatory, and academic course work, which offers international students a path into degree programs at IAU. These programs typically last one academic year, depending on English placement level. Students who complete the Undergraduate Pathway or Graduate Pathway program are able to transition into the appropriate level degree program.

Career
IAU’s ESL programs do not prepare graduates for a specific occupation or employment and do not provide formal career planning services. However, earning a certificate of completion or recognition from an accredited English language school like IAU could help students in the job market. When writing a resume, students should definitely include any certificate(s) or award(s) earned while studying at IAU. It will show the accomplishments, and they will give the prospective employer a sense of the attained English proficiency level. If students complete IAU’s Business English program, the resume will look even more impressive to employers who need someone to perform business or business-related tasks in English.
