Overview of the Program

The Bachelor of Communication, through classwork, independent study, and engagement with the multicultural nature of our communities, students develop an understanding of the local and international relevance of their chosen studies, with opportunities to develop and produce a range of media outcomes as applied research and professional projects throughout their studies. The Bachelor of Laws (Honours) program satisfies the academic degree requirements for admission to practice as an Australian lawyer.

Majors

• Advertising: Gives students a thorough grounding in general principles of communication as well as practical skills in advertising.
• Journalism: Combines an understanding of how the news media work with practical experience in broadcast, print, and online journalism.
• Media Arts Production: Designed to provide students with production skills, complete with practical hands-on experience together with a theoretical foundation in the moving, visual media.
• Public Affairs: Covers the skills and knowledge required in the profession of public relations, including event management, issues and crisis management, and campaign development.

Entry Requirements for Domestic Students

• Completion of at least 160 credit points of law study (or 140 credit points if two Summer subjects are undertaken)
• Demonstration of the likelihood of graduating with an Honours Weighted Average Mark (HWAM) of at least 70 at the time of graduation
• Demonstration of satisfactory academic writing skills
• Availability of a principal supervisor

• The Part-time option is not available to International Students on a Student Visa.
• Completion of at least 160 credit points of law study (or 140 credit points if two Summer subjects are undertaken)

Scholarships

Western Sydney University offers multi-year scholarships (for up to 3 years) valued at $6,000 or $3,000 and even 50% off tuition fees. Scholarships are awarded on academic merit.

Accreditation

Our graduates from the Bachelor of Laws are eligible to apply to the Legal Profession Admission Board for admission to legal practice in NSW after undertaking prescribed practical legal training. The Bachelor of Communication is accredited by professional organisations including the Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA) and the Media Federation of Australia (MFA).
