Thesis Option:

- Minimum of 12 credit hours of approved graduate-level electives (at or above the 600 level)
- 12 credit-hour thesis (PHYS 794-12)
- Students complete an independent investigation resulting in a scientific contribution.
- A maximum of 6 credit hours from independent studies can count towards the elective requirement.
Project Option:
- 3 credit hours of Graduate Seminar (PHYS 701)
- Minimum of 18 credit hours of approved graduate-level electives (at or above the 600 level) within a designated specialization
- 6 credit-hour project (PHYS 793-6)
- Students complete an independent investigation resulting in a scientific contribution, but it does not require original research.
