Program Overview
This certificate program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to design, install, and maintain HVAC&R systems. The program covers topics such as building systems documentation, applied thermodynamics, BIM for HVAC&R engineers, HVAC&R systems and applications, and heating, ventilating, and air conditioning design. Graduates of the program are prepared to take the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) Examination in Mechanical – HVAC and Refrigeration.

Outline:
- Building Systems Documentation (ME 240, 1 credit): Teaches students how to read and interpret mechanical plans, as well as piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID).
- Applied Thermodynamics (ME 329, 3 credits): Covers energy analysis and design of thermodynamic systems, including power and refrigeration cycles, thermodynamic relations, application of thermodynamics to mixtures and solutions, psychometrics, introduction to chemical thermodynamics, and the third law of thermodynamics.
- Building Information Modeling (BIM) for HVAC&R Engineers (ME 431, 1 credit): Explores the principles and application of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the HVAC&R industry, including a practice project in the HVAC field using Autodesk Revit.
Careers:
The certificate prepares students to be highly competitive in the job market and to eventually take the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) Examination in Mechanical – HVAC and Refrigeration.
