The Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.Ed.) in Secondary Education prepares students to teach grades 6-12 through a blended online and in-person cohort model. The program emphasizes community collaboration, understanding adolescent development, and designing effective curriculum and assessments. Students gain hands-on experience through field placements and can choose from certification areas in English, History, Mathematics, or Political Science.

Outline:

  • The B.S.Ed.
  • in Secondary Education program is taught within a cohort model, with students pursuing the degree through a blended combination of online and in-person meetings at Mercer's Atlanta, Douglas County, Henry County, or Macon locations.
  • The majority of each course is completed through both synchronous and asynchronous online instruction, and students only attend class in person twice per course.
  • Most students register for two courses per eight-week session.
  • Sessions begin five times per year, in January, March, May, August, and October.
  • Students can customize their B.S.Ed.
  • in Secondary Education by choosing one of the following areas of certification:

Teaching:

  • in Secondary Education program gain hands-on field experiences in public school classrooms in the local community. Throughout the secondary education degree program, students complete a variety of experiences, including pre-practicum, professional practicum, and student teaching.
