Program Overview

Texas State's construction management master's degree is based on nationally recognized academic standards along with feedback from the department's Construction Advisory Board.

Course Work

The 30-hour program has a thesis and two non-thesis options. The thesis option is for students inclined to go to a doctoral program or develop in-depth knowledge in a specific research area through the writing of a thesis. The non-thesis options are for professional working students whose career goals are to attain advanced knowledge in the construction management field.

The program aims to:

• apply advanced project management principles and practices to construction projects
• evaluate and select principles of leadership in business and management
• assemble extensive knowledge of current issues in construction to implement best practices

Admission Requirements

The items required for admission consideration are listed below.

• Application: completed online application
• Application Fee: $55 nonrefundable application fee, or $90 nonrefundable application fee for applications with international credentials
• Transcripts & GPA:
  • Baccalaureate degree (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university in a construction-related area
  • A copy of an official transcript from each institution where course credit was granted
  • A competitive overall GPA or a competitive GPA in the last 60 hours of undergraduate course work, plus any completed graduate courses
  • Knowledge of construction management demonstrated through previous coursework and/or work experience
• Test Scores:
  • GRE: not required
  • Approved English Proficiency Exam Scores:
    • official TOEFL iBT scores required with a 78 overall
    • official PTE scores required with a 52 overall
    • official IELTS (academic) scores required with a 6.5 overall and minimum individual module scores of 6.0
    • official Duolingo scores required with a 110 overall
    • official TOEFL Essentials scores required with an 8.5 overall
• Documents:
  • statement of purpose (maximum two pages) conveying research/professional interests, plans for graduate study, and professional aspirations
  • resume/CV detailing work experience, extracurricular and community activities, and honors and achievements
  • two letters of recommendation from persons best able to assess the student's ability to succeed in graduate school
