Program Overview

Secondary Education (Teacher Recruitment Program) (M.Ed.)

The Graduate College at Texas State University offers a specialized M.Ed. program in secondary education, providing an accelerated pathway for well-qualified post-baccalaureate individuals seeking initial teacher certification.

Program Overview

The Teacher Recruitment Program (TRP) is a full-certification program for individuals who prefer a more personal approach to teacher certification. Students on this path may receive their certification after two semesters of field-based and academic course work and complete their master's degree while earning a teacher's salary.

Course Work

The program requires 15 hours of certification course work, which may be completed through in-person classes at the San Marcos campus. These courses may be completed in one or two semesters. Following completion of the initial teacher certification course work, students are eligible to apply for state teacher certification. Once certified, they are eligible to work as teachers while they complete their degrees in the evenings, online, or summers.
