Program Overview


Construction Systems Management Program

The Construction Systems Management (CSM) program equips students with management skills for roles in commercial, heavy, and residential construction. The undergraduate CSM degree is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE).

Curriculum

Students must earn a minimum of 130 semester credit hours to receive a Bachelor of Science in Construction Systems Management from the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CFAES). The CSM core course topics include:


  • Construction materials and methods
  • Mechanical systems
  • Electrical and lighting systems
  • Surveying and site development
  • Estimating
  • Scheduling
  • Structures
  • Heavy construction
  • Safety and health
  • Project management
  • Contracts and documents
  • Professional development

CSM majors also complete supporting courses in business management, accounting, business law, and selected business and technical electives to develop managerial and technical skills. A minor is not mandatory for CSM students, but some students choose to pursue a minor related to their career interests.


Study Abroad

CSM students can apply for CFAES study abroad scholarships.


Internship

CSM students must complete a 400-hour internship as part of their program to gain practical experience in addition to their on-campus coursework. The CFAES Career Services Office aids students looking for internship opportunities.


Honors and Scholars

CSM students can apply for the CFAES Honors Program.


Student Organizations

The CSM Club provides students with opportunities to connect with fellow students and industry representatives at both local and national levels. Club activities include leadership development, community outreach, and service learning. Meetings may feature guest speakers, industry-focused programs, or social and recreational events.

Program Objectives

Upon completion of the program, the CSM graduate will be able to:

  2. Follow the business principles and ethical practices necessary to build and maintain a viable company serving the construction industry.
  3. Function effectively both as a team member and leader interacting successfully with clients, owners, government officials, the general public, and construction industry professionals from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
