Degree Overview:
The Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) program at The Ohio State University is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to address complex social and political problems. The program combines rigorous training in the foundational principles of philosophy, politics, and economics, enabling students to think critically and comprehensively about these interconnected disciplines. Upon graduating from the PPE program, students will have a comprehensive understanding of the philosophical justifications for political and economic systems, the theories and research methods guiding the study of politics and economics, and the ways in which these disciplines complement and challenge each other.
Outline:
The PPE program curriculum requires students to complete a minimum of 36 credit hours. The foundational coursework includes 18 hours of study in formal and normative reasoning, economics, and political economy. Beyond these foundational courses, students must take two required courses: Economy, Polity and Community, and Tradition, Progress and Utopia. Additionally, students will choose a concentration from the following options:
- Choice and behavior
- Global cooperation and conflict
- Justice and moral reasoning
- Law, policy, and governance Students may also opt to complete an internship, which can be counted for up to three credit hours towards the PPE major.
