Master of Accountancy Program

The Master of Accountancy program is designed to provide graduate-level accounting education that can be tailored to individual interests and career goals.

About the Master of Accountancy

The Master of Accountancy program includes four required accountancy and taxation courses, four accountancy electives, and two general electives. Students are also encouraged to take the CPA review course as one of their electives, which provides high-quality CPA exam preparation and a structured study environment.

Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission to the Master of Accountancy program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Full-Standing Admission:
  • Minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA
  • Completion of required undergraduate courses with minimum grades
  • Minimum 445 GMAT score (if not eligible for a GMAT waiver)
  • International students must meet English language proficiency exam requirements
• Required Undergraduate Courses:
  • University of Mississippi accountancy majors: minimum grades of C in ACCY 401 and ACCY 405
  • Accountancy majors from other institutions with separate accounting accreditation by AACSB International: minimum grades of C in undergraduate auditing and tax courses equivalent to ACCY 401 and ACCY 405
  • Accountancy majors in programs without separate accounting accreditation by AACSB and applicants who majored in a field of study other than accounting: completion of specific undergraduate courses with minimum grades

GMAT Requirements

• The GMAT requirement is waived for Patterson School accounting majors with an overall or resident GPA of 3.0 or higher and undergraduate accounting majors with an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher from other AACSB-accredited institutions.
• The GMAT is required for all students who wish to be considered for a PSOA graduate assistantship.

• Application Process:
  • Complete the graduate school application
  • Pay the $60 nonrefundable application fee
  • Submit official undergraduate transcript
  • Submit GMAT score (if required)

Degree Requirements

The Master of Accountancy degree requires completion of the following courses:

• Required Accountancy & Taxation Courses (12 hours):
  • ACCY 509: Corporate Income Tax
  • ACCY 601: Financial Accounting Theory & Analytics
  • ACCY 605: Managerial Accountancy & Business Intelligence
  • ACCY 610: Auditing Seminar
• Accountancy Electives (12 hours):
  • Choose four courses from a list of available electives
• General Electives (6 hours):
  • Choose two courses from a list of available electives

Financial Aid

Financial aid for Master of Accountancy students includes graduate assistantships and graduate student loans.

• PSOA Graduate Assistantship:
  • Approximately 50 graduate assistantships awarded each year
  • Graduate assistants perform 10 hours of service per week
  • Benefits include partial tuition scholarship, non-resident fee scholarship, and semesterly stipend
• Other Graduate Assistantships:
  • Available in other units on campus
