The Bachelor of Media at UNSW is a flexible degree that allows students to explore their interests and build on their passions in the field of media. Students can choose to specialize in one of five areas: cinema studies, communication & journalism, media studies, public relations & advertising, or screen production. The Bachelor of Media at UNSW is designed for students to explore their interests and build on their passions. Students will choose a specialization to pursue in depth, built on a strong foundation, and with the opportunity and flexibility to select what interests them most from across our specializations. Throughout the degree, students will examine the various aspects of media and the media industries through different lenses and approaches, such as media and cultural theory; linguistic and semiotic theory; the political economy of the media; digital media ethnography; public relations scholarship; cinematic, screen and sound cultures; and journalism and ethics.

  • To prepare students for careers in the media and related industries.

Program Description:

The Bachelor of Media at UNSW is a three-year full-time degree. The program is divided into three stages:

  • Stage 1: This stage provides students with a foundation in the core concepts of media studies.
  • Students will take courses in media theory, media history, media production, and media ethics.
  • Stage 2: This stage allows students to begin to specialize in a particular area of media studies.
  • Students will take courses in their chosen specialization, as well as electives in other areas of media studies.
  • Stage 3: This stage allows students to complete their specialization and to undertake a research project.
