The Bachelor of Medical Studies/Doctor of Medicine is a six-year undergraduate/postgraduate degree that equips students with the research skills and clinical experience needed to navigate the complex and ever-changing medical industry.

Program Structure

The Bachelor of Medical Studies/Doctor of Medicine program is split into three phases, with two years in each phase.

• Phase One: Scenario-based learning: Learn the basic medical sciences in relation to the human life cycle and social/ethical/legal issues related to healthcare.
• Phase Two: Practice-based learning: Gain increased clinical exposure in hospital placements with ongoing learning in biomedical and social sciences.
• Phase Three: Independent reflective learning: Consists of clinical placements and includes content from the basic medical and social sciences.

Full Program Structure

The Bachelor of Medical Studies/Doctor of Medicine is completed over six years of full-time study.

• Phase One: Eight core courses, with basic medical sciences, clinical skills, teamwork, ethical/legal issues, and socio-cultural aspects of health anchored by clinical scenarios.
• Phase Two: Clinical placements, with three days per week in hospitals, and lectures, small group work, tutorials, and practical classes on the other two days per week on campus.
• Phase Three: Ten eight-week courses, including seven core courses in the major disciplines, with almost all teaching conducted in hospitals.

Entry Requirements

2025 Lowest Selection Rank: ATAR + UCAT ANZ + Interview.

• Additional Selection Criteria: All applicants must complete an external test (UCAT ANZ or ISAT) and also complete an interview.

English Language Requirements

Students may be asked to provide evidence of their English proficiency to study at UNSW, depending on their educational background and citizenship.

• 2026 Indicative First Year Full Fee: $10,500* (Commonwealth Supported Place) and $95,500* (Full Fee).
• 2026 Indicative Full Fee to Complete Degree: $78,000* (Commonwealth Supported Place) and $647,000* (Full Fee).
