The Graduate Diploma in Mine Ventilation closely follows industry guidelines and incorporates a theoretical and operational perspective thats industry relevant. Its structured to meet the needs of both the metalliferous and coal mining sectors. On completion of this diploma, youll gain accreditation as a Coal Mine Ventilation Officer in NSW and QLD.

The accredited programs offered by UNSW for the appointment of Statutory Coal Mine Ventilation Officers in both NSW and QLD can be taken as options in the Diploma. The course contents have been developed from standard texts, industry guidelines, and case studies. These are delivered from both a theoretical and operational perspective with the aim that course contents will be immediately relevant to industry.

Entry Requirements

Relevant industry experience or access to an underground mine is essential for entry to the Graduate Diploma in Mine Ventilation. Entry is considered for each individual based on portfolio supporting the application, including details of relevant industry experience. An entry interview may be required.

• A bachelor degree in Mining Engineering (or equivalent) plus one-year relevant working experience in Mining,
  • or
• A bachelor degree in a discipline cognate to Mining Engineering (or equivalent) plus two years relevant working experience in Mining,
  • or
• A minimum of 4 years relevant working experience in mining PLUS one of the following - deputy's certificate, undermanagers certificate, mine managers certificate or mine surveyors certificate,
  • or
• Students who can demonstrate equivalent prior learning may be approved an alternative entry pathway by written permission of the Program Authority.
