Program Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Interaction Design (GCID) equips students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in interaction design. Through a human-centered approach, students learn to design interactive digital products and services that meet user needs. The program emphasizes iterative design processes and advanced technical knowledge, preparing graduates for careers in technology design roles such as interaction designer, UX designer, and service designer.

Program Outline

Degree Overview:

  • The Graduate Certificate in Interaction Design (GCID) prepares students with up-to-date theoretical knowledge and practical industry-standard skills in the field of interaction design.
  • The GCID is an entry-level course that is part of an articulated postgraduate program in interaction design.
  • The GCID aims to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to design interactive digital products, digital environments, systems, and services that meet the needs and desires of intended users.
  • The GCID emphasizes a human-centered approach to design, ensuring that products fit meaningfully into users' lives by understanding their practices, situations, and values.

Outline:

  • The GCID consists of four core subjects:

  • Internet Programming
  • Advanced Interaction Design
  • Data Driven Storytelling Studio
  • The program follows an iterative human-centered design process to solve real-world problems with actual users, developing skills to analyze, generate, and transmit solutions to complex problems.

Careers:

  • Graduates of the GCID can gain employment in a range of technology design-related roles, such as interaction designer, UX designer, UX researcher, service designer, or digital experience architect.
  • The GCID provides formal training for those working in closely related jobs, such as web design, graphic design, and interface design, to transition into interaction design roles.
  • The GCID also provides opportunities for those not currently working in interaction design to learn about the discipline and transition into various jobs under the interaction design umbrella.
