Natural Resources & Rangeland Ecology

In addition to a major of their choice, students in this program investigate the impact of livestock on natural resources and rangeland ecological systems on behalf of private and public agencies.

Natural Resources & Rangeland Ecology B.S., Minor

Students in the Natural Resources & Rangeland Ecology program at Montana State are able to supplement their core major with a study of the watersheds, rangelands, and other natural resources that comprise ranching, wildlife, and livestock habitats in the Mountain West. Emphasis is placed on soil, water, and vegetation attributes which influence habitat ecology and management of livestock and wildlife.

Research and Facilities

Montana State leverages more than $120 million annually to support pioneering research across its departments, institutes, and centers. The Department of Animal & Range Sciences has a variety of experimental ranch facilities, including the Red Bluff Ranch in Madison County and the Bandy Experimental Ranch near Missoula.
