Overview of the Clinical Psychology Program
The University of Toledo's Clinical Psychology doctoral program has a long history of providing superior training in the science and practice of psychology. The program is accredited by the American Psychological Association and offers a science-based, flexible curriculum that focuses on three traditional functions: clinical research, assessment, and evidence-based psychotherapy.
Research and Faculty
The program emphasizes both research and practice, providing students with strong research and statistical skills, as well as exceptional training in evidence-based practice and empirically-supported principles and treatments. Faculty members conduct research in areas such as child and adult anxiety, cyberpsychology, community psychology, emotion regulation, health psychology, personality assessment, personality disorders, posttraumatic stress, suicide and self-injury, self-regulation and coping, and serious mental illness.
Tuition and Funding
Most graduate students receive tuition support and stipends for four years. The university offers three types of assistantships: teaching assistantships, research assistantships, and community externships. Students have been placed at various sites, including the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System, The Center for Forensic Psychiatry, and The University of Toledo Counseling Center.
Career Opportunities
The program prepares students for careers in academia, hospital medical centers, and community mental-health centers. 93% of students earning a doctorate in the Clinical Psychology program have passed the licensure exam.
Plan of Study
Doctoral students complete a master's thesis and earn an M.A. degree while pursuing their Ph.D. Most students spend four years at the university and one year completing an internship elsewhere. The program offers minor areas in quantitative psychology, health psychology, and experimental psychopathology.
Admission Requirements
Students must apply to the graduate school and meet the admission requirements, which include a bachelor's degree, GPA, and test scores.
Professional Licensure
