Program Overview
The UTP Stage II: Communication, Art and Technology program is a two-year program that provides students with a foundation in the fields of communication, art, and technology. The program is designed to prepare students for a Bachelor of Arts degree with a Double Minor specialization in two of the following areas: Communication, Contemporary Arts, Interactive Arts & Technology, or Print and Digital Publishing. Graduates of the program will be prepared for a variety of careers in the fields of communication, art, and technology.

Overview
UTP Stage II: Communication, Art and Technology is equivalent to the first year of SFU’s Bachelor of Arts degree. The courses provide introduction to three Schools housed within the Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology, providing the foundation for a Bachelor of Arts degree with a Double Minor specialization.

CA135: Introduction to Cinema
This course provides an introduction to the study of film. Students will learn about the history of film, the different genres of film, and the techniques used to create films.
CA149: Sound
This course provides an introduction to the study of sound. Students will learn about the physics of sound, the different types of sound, and the techniques used to record and edit sound.
CMNS110: Introduction to Communication Studies
This course provides an introduction to the study of communication. Students will learn about the different theories of communication, the different types of communication, and the different ways that communication can be used.
CMNS120: Creativity and Communication Across Media
This course provides an introduction to the study of creativity and communication. Students will learn about the different theories of creativity, the different types of creativity, and the different ways that creativity can be used to communicate.
CMNS130: Explorations in Mass Communication
This course provides an introduction to the study of mass communication. Students will learn about the history of mass communication, the different types of mass media, and the different ways that mass media can be used to communicate.
IAT102: Graphic Design
This course provides an introduction to the study of graphic design. Students will learn about the different principles of graphic design, the different types of graphic design, and the different ways that graphic design can be used to communicate.
ENGL112: Literature Now
This course provides an introduction to the study of contemporary literature. Students will read and discuss works of fiction, poetry, and drama from a variety of cultures and time periods.
ENGL113: Literature and Performance
This course provides an introduction to the study of literature and performance. Students will read and discuss plays, poems, and novels that have been adapted for the stage or screen.
ENGL115: Literature and Culture
This course provides an introduction to the study of literature and culture. Students will read and discuss works of fiction, poetry, and drama in relation to the cultural context in which they were produced.
WL101: Writing in World Literature
This course provides an introduction to the study of writing in world literature.
