This minor program in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) provides students with a foundation in communication sciences and disorders.   • Covers disorders of speech, language, hearing, scope of practice, assessment, therapy overview, augmentative/alternative communication, and sign language.
  • SLP1050 - Multicultural Issues in Language (3 credits): Introduction to culture and diversity, definitions of race, culture, ethnicity, history of immigration, impact on the United States, communication and language development between English and non-English speaking cultures, and socio-cultural factors in assessment and intervention.
  • SLP2010 - Normal Speech and Language Development (3 credits): Focuses on speech and language acquisition in children, language development over the life span, biological basis of language, language development models, structure of language systems, and language processes related to literacy acquisition.
  • SLP3010 - Speech-Language Disorders in the Educational Setting (3 credits): Implications of speech-language disorders on learning and academic performance, assessment, and service delivery models in educational settings.
