Major Specialization term wise courses
Advanced Quantitative Finance
The Advanced Quantitative Finance curriculum has twin focus areas, namely, Financial Markets and Financial Intermediation. The financial markets segment, will commence with the study of issues such as investor rationality and risk aversion, which is the cornerstone of modern Finance. This foundation, will lay the platform for the study of well-known techniques such as portfolio optimization, which in turn will lead to models such as the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM), the Arbitrage Pricing Theory, and the Black-Scholes model. The focus of these courses is to take students on a journey starting with assumptions that leads to models, what we may call the Modelling Phase, which in turn can be tested using econometric techniques and real data, which may be termed as the Empirical Phase. The financial intermediation perspective, focuses on banking, including shadow banking, and issues pertaining to risk management by institutions, such as asset liability management and value at risk (VaR). Students will also be introduced to agency theory related issues such as adverse selection and moral hazard in banking, financial services and insurance. The participants will also undertake a course on Islamic banking which would help them better understand the nuances of the financial sector in the Middle East. This style of banking is gaining importance in countries outside this region as well, due to the financial muscle of entities in Arab countries.
