The Ph.D. in Civil Engineering is a terminal degree program designed to meet the needs of researchers and scholars, whether in academia, industry, or government. Curriculum
The Rowan University Ph.D. in Civil Engineering program requires the completion of coursework, Qualifier Exam, research requirements, dissertation, and dissertation defense.
- If you possess a bachelor’s degree, a minimum of 72 semester hours of graduate-level work will be required.
- If you possess a master’s degree in a related field, a minimum of 42 semester hours (credits) of graduate-level work beyond your master’s degree will be required. Up to 30 of the credits earned in pursuit of your master’s degree may be transferable.

A course may be retaken once; a second retake requires committee and coordinator approval.

- TOEFL/WES Evaluation (International Students): International students must submit TOEFL scores and a WES evaluation. Rowan's TOEFL code is 2515, and its Pearson Test of English (PTE) code is M7V. Official IELTS score reports can be verified with the TRF# in the bottom right corner. A Foreign Credential Evaluation Report is optional.
Language Proficiency Requirements:
International students must submit proof of English language proficiency. Students who don't meet the English proficiency requirement may be offered conditional admission, requiring completion of the university's English Language Program (ELP) before starting their studies.
