The Real Estate program at SBCC provides a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for success in the real estate industry. It prepares students for professional certification as real estate salespersons and brokers, covering core concepts in real estate principles, practices, finance, appraisal, economics, and legal aspects. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in various real estate fields, including real estate agents, brokers, property managers, investors, and more.

Overview:

The Real Estate curriculum is designed to equip students with the foundational knowledge of the real estate industry. It caters to individuals interested in the real estate business, and it prepares students for professional certification as real estate salespersons and brokers. The curriculum includes the core course required for the salesperson license exam (Real Estate Principles). Additionally, it offers the five courses necessary for the broker license exam (Real Estate Practice, Real Estate Appraisal, Real Estate Economics, Real Estate Finance, and Legal Aspects of Real Estate) along with the required three elective courses. These courses, however, do not meet salesperson/broker continuing education requirements.


Objectives:

  • Analyze common real estate problems, apply appropriate solutions, and interpret outcomes.
  • Meet career preparation goals and prepare for the state licensing exam.
  • Explain the process for making home purchase or sale decisions and completing real estate transactions.
  • Demonstrate mastery of program-specific concepts and skills, including understanding theory and application in real estate finance, investments, property management, and financial institutions.

Structure:

The program consists of 27 units of coursework. Students must complete all the department requirements with a "C" or better in each course. Candidates must also complete at least 20% of the department requirements through SBCC.
