Program Overview


The Foundations Certificate in International Trade is a two-month program approved by PTIB and partnered with FITT. It provides foundational knowledge and skills in global trading, including international market entry strategies, global supply chain management, and international trade finance. Graduates are eligible for FITT certification and can pursue careers in international trade-related fields such as account management and logistics.

Degree Overview:

This Foundations Certificate in International Trade is a two-month program that has been approved by PTIB. Graduates of this program will become familiar with the most integral characteristics of the current global trading landscape. They will be able to recognize the key factors driving the global economy and acquire the foundational skills needed to flourish as a competent international trade professional. Arbutus College is also a partner of the Forum for International Trade Training (FITT). This program may lead to FITT certification.


Outline:

The Foundations Certificate in International Trade program consists of 14 credits and 168 hours of study. The program's structure includes mandatory courses, elective courses, and FITT skills courses.


Mandatory Courses:

  • Students must select three courses from the following list:
  • BU 2255 International Trade (4 credits, 48 hours)
  • BU 228 Beyond the Border (Trade Show) (2 credits, 24 hours)
  • BU 330 International Market Entry Strategies (4 credits, 48 hours)
  • BU 331 Global Business Environment (4 credits, 48 hours)
  • BU 332 Global Supply Chain Management (4 credits, 48 hours)
  • BU 333 International Trade Finance (4 credits, 48 hours)
  • BU 334 International Marketing (4 credits, 48 hours)
  • BU 335 International Trade Research (4 credits, 48 hours)
  • BU 336 Legal Aspects of International Trade (4 credits, 48 hours)

Elective Courses:

  • Students must select one course from the following list:
  • COM 201, 211, 212 Business Communication (6 credits, 72 hours)
  • Students may choose to replace Business Communication with two courses from the following list:
  • COM 125-128 Business English (4 credits, 48 hours)

  • BU 218 - 220 Business Management (2 credits, 24 hours)

FITT Skills Courses:

  • To qualify for the CITP designation, students must successfully complete all six FITT Skills Courses and have a minimum of one year of professional international business experience.
