The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program at Missouri Southern prepares students to be first responders in medical emergencies. Through a combination of classroom instruction and clinical training, students learn essential skills for managing respiratory, trauma, and cardiac emergencies, as well as the proper use of medical equipment. Degree Overview:

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) are the first responders on the scene of medical emergencies and a wide variety of emergency situations. The EMT program at Missouri Southern involves both classes and specialized clinical training through area hospitals and advanced life support ambulance services. You'll be required to meet a specified number of hours in hospital Emergency Departments and hours onboard ALS ambulances. Our program meets all national standard curriculum requirements and prepares you for a new, exciting and important career.


Objectives:

  • The essential elements for the safe and efficient response to a scene of a medical emergency.
  • Use of equipment including backboards, suction devices, oxygen delivery systems and more.
  • Managing respiratory, trauma and cardiac emergencies.
  • Proper ways to deal with bleeding, fractures, airway obstruction, cardiac arrest, emergency childbirth and more.
  • Applying fundamental knowledge of the EMS system and medical, legal, and ethical issues to the provision of emergency care.
