Overview
The Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology is a qualification that reflects the role of individuals who perform a broad range of tasks on a variety of light vehicles in the automotive retail, service, and repair industry. The purpose of this course is to prepare students to apply knowledge, practical skills, and experience in the automotive retail, service, and repair industry by performing a broad range of tasks on a variety of light vehicles.
Course Duration and Intake Dates
This qualification will be delivered intensively over 78 weeks, including 70 weeks of training and assessment and 8 weeks of holidays. Note that supplementary classes will be scheduled, and attendance is required, should additional classes be required to allow for classes missed as a result of public holidays, or other interruptions, and/or for students who require further training and/or reassessment or additional support.
Course Structure
- Completion of a total number of 36 units is required for the award of the AUR30620 – Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology
- Core units: 20 units
- Elective units: 16 units, of which:
- all 16 units may be from the elective units listed in the AUR30620
- up to 6 units may be from a Certificate II qualification or above in AUR30620 or another endorsed Training Package or accredited course

Entry Requirements
Although the training package does not stipulate any entry requirements for this training product, the following entry requirements are in place for international students:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Participate in a course entry interview (pre-enrolment review) to determine suitability of the course and additional support needs
- Undertake the ACSF LLN assessment
English Language Proficiency Requirements
Students must have completed an English language test within two years of the application date. English Language Test Evidence Exemption
Students do not need to provide evidence of an English test score if one of the following applies:
- They are a citizen and hold a passport from the UK, USA, Canada, NZ, or the Republic of Ireland
- They are an applicant who is a Foreign Affairs or Defence sponsored student, or a Secondary Exchange student (AASES)
- They are enrolled in a principal course of study that is a registered school course, a standalone ELICOS, a course delivered in a language other than English, or a registered post-graduate research course
- They have completed at least 5 years' study in English in one or more of the following countries: Australia, UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, or the Republic of Ireland
Study Assessment and Pathway
The college operates on a rolling intake timetable. Although no units in this qualification have any pre-requisites, the college has adopted a stage-based rolling intake where all students must complete the units in the initial stage listed below prior to merging with ongoing classes. Students can commence their course in any of the following units and in any order. Once completed, students will be merged with older students. Each student will be provided with an individual training and assessment plan outlining their timetable.

Required Textbook
The required textbook for this course is Automotive Mechanics, 10th or 11th Edition, by Ed May and Les Simpson. Textbooks are available in the library for reading, and students are required to purchase their own copy to ensure constant access.
Practical Requirements
- Students will be provided with an apprentice toolkit, which must be brought to all practical classes
- Students will be provided with a uniform, which must be worn for all workshop days
- Students must purchase their own safety boots and bring them to every practical class
- A timetable will be provided identifying the days for workshop-based training and assessment

Assessment System
Units are assessed individually via a range of methods, including:
- Written Assessment
- Verbal Questioning
- Practical Demonstrations observed directly by the assessor
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfers (CT)
The RTO offers all students the opportunity to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfers (CT).
Assessment Appeals
Students can appeal any assessment decision by following the Complaints and Appeals Policy outlined in the Student Handbook.
