Overview of the Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology Program

The Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology program at Nova Southeastern University is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of the American Psychological Association. The program is founded on the practitioner-informed-by-science model, preparing students to provide empirically supported or evidence-based assessment and intervention methods and to evaluate their efficacy.

Program Concentrations

The program offers seven concentrations, allowing students to specialize in areas that interest them most. These concentrations include:

  • Child, Adolescent and Family Psychology Track: treating children and adolescents with major emotional and behavioral problems and troubled families.
  • Clinical Forensic Psychology: working with police to prevent and solve crimes or partnering with attorneys as an expert witness or jury consultant.
  • Clinical Health Psychology: applying expertise to boost patient outcomes and shape public healthcare policy.
  • Long-term Mental Illness: treating and evaluating severely and persistently mentally ill adults and children, and their families.
  • Multicultural Track: bridging sharp differences in perspectives and expectations to reach and treat patients more successfully.
  • Clinical Neuropsychology: diagnosing and treating brain injuries and illnesses.
  • Psychodynamic Psychology: analyzing patients' past situations and emotions that shape today's choices, perceptions, and behaviors.

Unique Clinical Experiences

The program provides unique clinical experiences through the NSU Psychology Services Center, which includes 15 on-campus working clinics treating a diverse South Florida population and many international visitors.
