The Foundations of Electronic Music certificate is designed to provide you with knowledge and skills that are essential building blocks in the field of Digital Audio Engineering. All courses within this certificate are also part of a AAAS degree in Digital Audio Engineering.

What You’ll Learn

• Define and apply terminology common to the study of Electronic Music
• Explain and apply fundamentals of music theory in the creation, evaluation and interpretation of musical works
• Use electronic music equipment to sample, sequence, synthesize and produce music
• Implement electronic music using basic principles of acoustics, audio production, amplification, and recording
• Use basic computer software applications
• Safely and appropriately use and maintain electronic audio equipment

Courses & Requirements

Program Description:

This certificate provides core concepts and skills necessary for the production of electronic music. It provides students the groundwork for continued study and access to the industry.

Certificate of Completion (14 Credits)

GPA of 2.0 or better for the entire program required.

Program Requirements

Students should be competent in their chosen Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) as well as a basic understanding of music theory (major and minor scales, triads, etc).

For students studying online, a Mac or PC computer is required along with broadband internet access.

Careers & Opportunities

Electronic Music Producer/Technician, Game Audio Specialist, Jingle Writer, Multimedia Producer, multimedia (CD and DVD) production, and music composition. Some churches, synagogues and other religious institutions are installing electronic music equipment and creating employment opportunities for skilled technicians.

Potential employers include: Microsoft, Nintendo, gaming companies like Pop Cap, 343 Industries, 5th Cell, ArenaNet, Bungie, Flying Lab Software, GameHouse, and Turn 10 Studios. Also, it is important to note that the majority of electronic music technicians work as independent contractors.
