Program Overview

Introduction to Nova Southeastern University's Dual Admission Program

Nova Southeastern University (NSU) offers a Dual Admission program designed for students interested in pursuing a career in dentistry. This program allows students to secure a spot in NSU's highly selective College of Dental Medicine while they earn their bachelor's degree.

Program Overview

The Doctor of Dental Medicine is a six-, seven-, or eight-year program. The six-year program (2+4) is a combined program where students follow a two-year prescribed course of study, earning a Bachelor of Science in Medical Science upon successful completion of the first year of dental school. The seven-year program (3+4) is also a combined program, with students following a three-year prescribed course of study in their undergraduate major and being awarded a bachelor's degree after successfully completing the first year of professional education at the College of Dental Medicine. The eight-year program (4+4) requires students to complete their four-year undergraduate major and be awarded a bachelor's degree before starting the dental medicine program.

Degrees Earned

Students in the six-year program earn a B.S. in Medical Science and their Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.). In the seven or eight-year program, students can earn any bachelor's degree and their Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.).

Program Length

The program lengths are six years (2+4), seven years (3+4), or eight years (4+4).

Interview Required

Students applying for dual admission must interview during Shark Preview, an exclusive admitted student event.

Deadline to Apply

The deadline for fall admission is February 1.

Undergraduate Admission Requirements

  • GPA: 4.0 Weighted GPA in High School
  • ACT/SAT:
    • 2+4: 31 Composite ACT, 1400 SAT
    • 3+4: 30 Composite ACT, 1360 SAT
    • 4+4: 27 Composite ACT, 1270 SAT
  • CLT Equivalent
  • Courses: Biology*, Chemistry, and Pre-Calculus or Trigonometry

Graduate Admission Requirements

To keep their dual admission status, students must complete a graduate application once they finish their bachelor's degree. The basic requirements include:

  • Degree Required: For the 2+4 and 3+4 programs, a degree is not required prior to transitioning to the graduate program. For the 4+4 program, students must complete a bachelor's degree, including some science courses.
  • Required Test Scores: DAT with a minimum score of 440. All minimum test scores must be achieved on the same test attempt (no superscoring).
  • Undergraduate GPA: Students must maintain a 3.6 cumulative and science GPA. They must also earn at least a C in each prerequisite course.
  • Credits Required: For the six- and seven-year tracks, 90 major and general education credits must be completed. For the eight-year track, it's 120 credits.

Eligibility

To be considered for Dual Admission, students must meet specific requirements. The program is only for first-time in college students, although college credits earned through advanced high school programs may apply.

Additional Requirements

  • Transfer Credits Through High School: College credits earned through advanced high school programs such as AP, IB, or college academy may transfer to NSU. However, students are encouraged to take a majority of their specific science program prerequisites at NSU.
  • Placement Information: A student's initial course placement in mathematics, science, or composition may impact the timing of the completion of all dual admission prerequisites and major courses.

Application Process

Students can apply for the Dual Admission program using the NSU Application or the Common App. They must also submit a supplemental Premier Programs application for fall entry and interview during Shark Preview if admitted to NSU and submitted the supplemental application.
