Program Overview
Summary
Develop specialized skills in product and service promotion. Master marketing principles including retailing, sales, advertising, digital business, and event marketing for a career as a marketing specialist, research analyst, account executive, media director and more.
What You’ll Learn
- Understand basic marketing principles, including market research, product development, product promotion, pricing strategies and customer satisfaction
- Develop, initiate and analyze sales programs, along with budget and expense reports
- Demonstrate professional sales skills-effectively interview clients and gauge consumer needs
- Apply advertising strategies to plan, select and produce effective advertising media
- Apply principles of retailing to include store management, merchandising and inventory control
- Understand business operations to include: buying, selling, marketing, personnel management and finance
- Communicate effectively with consumers, business managers and vendors
Program Description
The Associate in Applied Arts and Sciences degree is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills in the marketing field to enter the workforce directly upon completion of the degree. Shoreline Community College works closely with local advisory committees comprised of industry professionals to ensure students receive the knowledge and skills currently in demand by employers in the field. AAAS Degree (93 Credits)
GPA of 2.0 or better for the entire program required.
Program Prerequisites
- Placement into ENGL& 101 or BTWRT 215, and placement into MATH& 107 or BUS 102.

Communication Skills (5 Credits)
- Choose either BTWRT 215 or ENGL& 101.
Quantitative/Symbolic Reasoning (5 Credits)
- Choose either BUS 102 or MATH& 107.
Multicultural Understanding (3-5 Credits)
- Choose one of the following courses: BUS 103, CMST 203, GWS 284, HIST 245, AES 101. SOC 270, PSYC 230.
