Program Overview

The B.S. in Public Health program provides a comprehensive foundation in population health, disease prevention, and health promotion. Through a combination of traditional coursework, experiential learning, and community-based projects, students develop the skills and knowledge necessary for careers in public health, clinical practice, research, and other related fields. The program emphasizes practice-based education and prepares graduates for a wide range of career opportunities in public health and beyond.

• Program Content: The B.S.
in Public Health curriculum provides students with a solid foundation in population health, social and environmental determinants of health, and strategies related to disease prevention and health promotion.
• Program Structure: The curriculum is divided into four years.
The first three years include traditional liberal arts courses, core public health courses, and medical school prerequisites (for students interested in pursuing a medical degree). The fourth year comprises major elective courses in the public health concentration and intensive community-based learning opportunities.

• Teaching Methods: The program utilizes an on-site model with opportunities for participation in global, domestic, and local medical outreach initiatives.
Traditional classroom instruction is supplemented with innovative, community-based experiential learning and the use of contemporary information technology.
• Faculty: Faculty members from the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine's Department of Public Health, Department of Nutrition, and Department of Family Therapy, as well as faculty members from NSU's Halmos College of Arts and Sciences, teach the courses.
