Program Overview
This Mechatronics Technician program prepares students for a bachelor's degree in Mechatronics or Automation. The program covers principles of mechatronics, including mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical energy types. Graduates will be equipped to troubleshoot and repair industrial equipment and meet OSHA and WISHA safety standards. The program includes an optional robotics industry certification and forklift certification.

Degree Overview:
This degree program is designed for students that wish to take Mechatronics and upon graduating flow into a bachelor's program in the field of Mechatronics and/or Automation. A graduate of the program will be prepared for theory and application of various principles of Mechatronics. Instruction covers the basic energy types that animate and/or control machinery. These energy types are mechanical energy (solids), hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical. The student will become familiar with machinery components that conduct, control, and apply the various energy types. Additional areas of study include, industrial wiring, industrial rigging, motor logic control, electric fluid power, PLC (programable logic controller), automation, and robotics (optional industry certification, available for MTX 150 only), and an optional forklift certification. Credit for hours of training is usually granted to those entering an approved apprenticeship program. Entry into the program at any time is possible on a space-available basis with instructor's permission.

The program's core course list comprises 48 credits, with each course carrying 8 credits:
- MTX 100: Mechatronics Technician 1
- MTX 110: Mechatronics Technician 2
- MTX 120: Mechatronics Technician 3
- MTX 130: Mechatronics Technician 4
- MTX 140: Mechatronics Technician 5
- MTX 150: Mechatronics Technician 6 In addition to the core courses, students must also complete 42 credits of general education requirements. These requirements include:
- English (5 credits)
- Communications (10 credits)
- Mathematics (10 credits)
Careers:
Upon completion of the program, graduates will be equipped to work as mechatronics technicians and demonstrate understanding of OSHA and WISHA standards for safety in the workplace. They will be able to troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic industrial equipment and explain the consequences of failure to comply with company and basic safety principles.
