The Emergency and Crisis Management Master of Science degree is designed to provide students with the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to become leaders in their profession. The program's mission is to provide current and future emergency and crisis management leaders with a well-rounded graduate learning experience, enabling them to effectively address natural, intentional, and technological disasters. Students in the program will learn how to create and analyze emergency plans for organizations and communities, lead during challenging periods, and offer pathways for community resiliency. The program also covers legal and political issues relevant to disasters and terrorism. UNLV was one of the first universities to create an Emergency Management Master's degree program after the September 11th attacks. The program continues to grow and develop, while increasing its partnerships with agencies and experts in the public, private, and non-profit sectors.

The Emergency and Crisis Management Master of Science program consists of 36 credits, including required courses, additional required courses, elective courses, and a culminating experience.

Teaching:
The program is taught by faculty who have backgrounds working in high-level positions at the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, as well as many state and municipal agencies. The program capitalizes on the location of UNLV in Las Vegas and provides opportunities for students to study Tourism Security and Crowd Management issues with internationally recognized academic faculty, and the university's strong connections to the local public safety and hospitality industry. The program is geared for individuals who are working full-time and cannot easily come to campus. The courses are principally completed online, with five campus visits over long weekends.

Entry Requirements:
- Minimum GPA of 2.75 overall for all undergraduate work. When GPA is below 2.75, applicant will need to submit a detailed account of how their work history and/or educational experiences relate(s) to the program
- A completed Graduate College application
- Submission of official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
- A resume which should indicate professional experience
- A personal statement
- Three letters of recommendation. Letters need to be from either academic (at the undergraduate level or higher) or professional sources (direct supervisors or co-workers)
- A nonrefundable admission application fee, payable by credit card, check, or money order.
