Graduate Certificate in Multicultural Education
Program Overview
The Graduate Certificate in Multicultural Education equips students with the knowledge and skills to effectively work with diverse populations in PK-12 education. Through required and elective courses, students develop an understanding of multicultural education principles, cultural diversity, and culturally responsive practices. Degree Overview:
The Graduate Certificate in Multicultural Education (GCME) is designed for full- or part-time graduate students who seek to enhance their understanding and skills in multicultural education. The program aims to prepare students to work effectively with diverse populations, particularly in the context of PK-12 education. While the GCME is primarily intended for students who have completed an undergraduate teacher education licensure program, it is open to all qualified graduate students.
Objectives:
Upon completion of the GCME, students will be able to:
- Respect and appreciate cultural diversity.
- Promote the understanding of unique cultural and ethnic heritage.
- Develop culturally relevant, responsive, and sustaining curricula, pedagogies, and praxes.
- Facilitate acquisition of the attitudes, skills, and knowledge to function in various sociocultural and sociopolitical contexts.
- Eliminate racism and other forms of oppression and discrimination in society.
- Achieve social, political, economic, and educational equity and justice.
