About Program
Program Overview
This program provides a comprehensive foundation in cyber security, covering topics such as cyberspace structures, programming fundamentals, information security, and case studies. Students develop analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, preparing them for careers as penetration testers, IT security engineers, and other roles in the industry. Graduates are eligible for work experience placements with the Australian Defence Force Cyber Gap Program and can articulate into RMIT's on-campus Masters of Cyber Security.
Program Outline
Outline:
- Structures of Cyberspace: Students learn how to apply abstract thinking to cyberspace scenarios, navigate the language and dimensions of cyber security, and communicate abstract ideas using text, symbols, and diagrams.
- Programming Fundamentals: Students analyze simple computing problems, devise algorithmic solutions, and code these solutions in a computer programming language. They also develop maintainable and reusable solutions using the object-oriented paradigm.
- An Introduction to Information Security: Students acquire an overview of the issues involved in information security and assurance. They learn about the application and skills required for further concepts in information security, and communicate and interpret ideas related to its principles.
- Case Studies in Cyber Security: Students devise and discuss information security risks and challenges encountered in modern applications. They identify professional careers or postgraduate research opportunities in information security, and explore work practice and group dynamics theory relevant to the interdisciplinary and people-centered nature of the field. They communicate both technical and non-technical material in various forms to a variety of audiences.
Teaching:
- Students can expect to spend 10-12 hours studying per subject per week, with each term comprising 10 weeks.
- Industry connections: Graduates can articulate into RMIT's on-campus Masters of Cyber Security and are eligible to apply for work experience placements with the Australian Defence Force Cyber Gap Program.
Careers:
