This advanced diploma in Electronics and Communications combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience in testing, installing, and maintaining electronic systems. Students develop skills in computer-aided drafting, microprocessor programming, and project management, preparing them for careers in manufacturing, telecommunications, and other industries where electronics and communications are essential.

Outline:

This advanced diploma blends practical experience with electronics and communications applications built on a strong theoretical foundation. You'll learn how to test, assemble, install, and maintain equipment and systems, manage risk, estimate and manage projects, and provide technical advice. You'll gain skills in computer-aided drafting and electronic design, computer interfacing, microprocessor programming, design, commissioning electronics systems, computer programming, and perform simulations using various software packages. The qualification is structured to deliver competencies, knowledge and skills required by the nationally-accredited Electrotechnology Training Package. Areas of specialised study include: analogue integrated circuit communications and networks computational solutions computer programming digital and analogue applications electronic technology and instrumentation engineering and material science environmental and sustainability gate array technology microelectronics microprocessor control systems occupational health and safety printed circuit board design project management telecommunications.


Assessment:

Ongoing assessment throughout the semester includes examinations, essays, reports, oral classes, presentations, group projects, research projects, laboratory projects and practical assignments.


Teaching:

Option 1:

Advanced Diploma of Electronics and Communications Engineering (plan code C6178) Successful completion of the Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation (Engineering) OR Successful completion of the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) (or equivalent) OR Completion of Post-Secondary studies in Engineering or a related field (Certificate III or above) OR At least 6 months’ work experience in Engineering, trades or related disciplines


Option 2:

Guaranteed Pathway - Advanced Diploma of Electronics and Communications Engineering/Bachelor of Engineering (Electronic and Computer Systems) (Honours) (plan code C6178PATH1): Successful completion of the Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation (Engineering) OR Successful completion of the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) (or equivalent) OR Completion of Post-Secondary studies in Engineering or a related field (Certificate III or above) OR At least 6 months’ work experience in Engineering, trades or related disciplines.


Language Proficiency Requirements:

To study this program you will need to complete one of the following English proficiency tests: IELTS (Academic): minimum overall band of 5.5 (with no individual band below 5.0) TOEFL (Internet Based Test - IBT): minimum overall score of 50 (with minimum of 5 in Reading, 5 in Listening, 14 in Speaking and 15 in Writing) Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE (A)): minimum score of 42 (with no communication band less than 36) C1 Advanced: minimum of 162 with no less than 154 in any component.
