Here’s what’s typically required to land a management role in OHS.

Course Schedule and Format

(Asynchronous)
Instructor-supported courses come with the support of a dedicated instructor but do not follow a set class schedule. Students work at their own pace to complete the course within a set time period. The instructor may offer pre-recorded lectures that are available for students to review or check-in sessions that students can participate in via video conferencing.

(Live Session Office Hours)The Health and Safety Management instructor is available the second Thursday of each month from 6:00 – 7:00 PM EST for live discussions via video call. Students will be provided with a link to participate.

Accident Prevention, Loss Control & OHS Management Systems __

Prevention should be a top priority for all organizations. A good culture of safety promotes fewer injuries, which in turn increases employee morale and improves a corporation’s reputation. Putting health and safety first allows companies to reduce capital and operating costs as well as liability costs. In this module, you will learn the importance of approaching accident prevention systematically.

Risk and Decision Making __

Risk management is part of organization decision making. In this module, you will learn the effects of poor risk management and how it factors in workplace fatalities, injuries, disease, and ill health (mental and physical) and how you can influence decision-makers to make informed choices with respect to risk.

Health and Safety Ethics and Professional Practice __

Occupational health and safety (OHS) professionals and those involved in corporate OHS culture have an intrinsic desire to be ethical professionals. Individual factors such as biases, blind spots, and moral disengagement can have a profound impact on the decision-making process. This module presents ethical theory as a basis for identifying issues, carrying out health and safety processes and activities, and making decisions.

Leadership and the Occupational Health and Safety Professional __

A leader is someone who influences the safety culture of an organization. In this module, you will learn communication and consultation skills, discuss leadership and leadership techniques, and learn how to engage management and employees and build successful relationships. You will gain an understanding of the broader demands of an organization and develop skills to operate as a strategic partner who can guide change management and build credibility and influence without using power.

Workplace Health and Well-Being __

One way to achieve a psychologically safe workplace is to create and implement a comprehensive workplace health and safety program. This module will identify strategies and related activities, initiatives, and policies developed by the employer in consultation with employees to continually improve on the quality of working life, health, and well-being of the workforce.

Cindy Wilkins

Instructor, Health and Safety Management

Cindy Wilkins is a licensed engineer with over 30 years of experience in high-risk health and safety environments. She holds a degree in environmental engineering from the University of Guelph and a diploma in occupational health and safety from Conestoga College. Her industry background includes roles at Safety-Kleen, Clean Harbors, and GFL Environmental.

Register for a certificate and automatically receive a $500 scholarship towards tuition!

Health and Safety Management Individual Classes

The chart below outlines the cost of Health and Safety Management classes if you choose to take them individually. Once you register for three or more classes within a certificate, you will be charged the non-refundable $200 registration fee. Individual classes must be paid in full at time of registration.

Health and Safety Management Certificate

A $200 non-refundable registration fee is charged when you register for an entire certificate. The $500 scholarship will be automatically applied to your future payments. We offer a payment plan for tuition in three equal payments of $665 at week 1, week 5, and week 9, which will be automatically charged to your method of payment unless otherwise coordinated with accounting.

We also offer an extended payment plan over 20 weeks. Please note your course must be paid in full prior to completion.

Students who successfully complete a certificate with Kompass are eligible for 20% off future certificates and classes. Group and employer discounts and custom corporate training options are available for three or more students.
