Program Overview


The MSAE program at SJSU provides a comprehensive foundation in aerospace engineering, preparing students for careers in industry or advanced study. The program offers two specialization areas, Aircraft Design and Space Transportation and Exploration, and emphasizes professional skills, research abilities, and strong communication.   • Overview: The MSAE Program, offered by the Department of Aerospace Engineering, is designed to prepare students for professional careers in industry or advanced study in Ph.D. programs.

  • Provide MSAE graduates with a strong foundation beyond the undergraduate level in their chosen focus area as well as in mathematics, basic science, and engineering fundamentals.
  • Equip graduates with contemporary professional and lifelong learning skills to successfully compete for technical engineering positions.
  • Impart expertise necessary to work in the analysis, design, development, and testing of aerospace engineering systems.
  • Develop strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write engineering reports.

  • Content: The program consists of 30 semester units of approved work, including 6 units devoted to a thesis or project.

Admission Requirements

Entry requirements:

  • BS degree or related field in an accredited institution with GPA 2.75 in the final 60 unit.
  • Students may be admitted conditionally with BS in any science or engineering field from accredited institution.
  • Students with conditional standing must complete the BSAE core courses based upon their evaluation by AE Graduate coordinator.

Language proficiency Requirements

Applicants from countries in which the native language is not English must take GRE with the minimum acceptable scores for admission as listed on the GAPE website. Applicants must also achieve minimum English language proficiency test score indicated on the GAPE website.
