Construction Supervision, Certificate, Part-time
Program Overview
The Construction Supervision program provides comprehensive training in construction contracts, project management, technical writing, design principles, materials, computer applications, safety, and environmental legislation. Graduates are prepared for entry-level roles in construction, such as project coordinator or junior project manager, and meet the educational requirements for the Canadian Construction Association's Gold Seal designation.

The Construction Supervision program comprises 9 courses:
Construction Documents and Contracts
Examines the construction contract, its various components, and the responsibilities of participating parties. Reviews the CCDC II - 2008 contract and discusses contract definitions, interpretations, and disputes.
Basic Project Management Skills
Provides the basic project management concepts, including project planning, controls, cash flow projections, and documentation. Eligible for the StrongerBC Future Skills Grant.
Technical Writing/Interpersonal Skills
Develops writing skills required in the construction industry and provides basic instruction in interpersonal skills and human relations.
Construction Design Principles
Presents structural engineering topics to enhance graduates' understanding of structural building systems, covering structural systems, statics, earthquake, and lateral considerations, and exploring structural systems in wood, steel, and concrete.
Construction Materials and Assemblies
Introduces materials and assemblies encountered in construction projects, reviewing how physical properties are derived and implemented, and how to select, handle, purchase, and measure materials.
Computer Applications in Construction
Presents computer applications with an emphasis on construction documentation, cost analysis, estimating, and scheduling using MS Excel and MS Project. Requires prior completion of the Construction Operations program or departmental approval.
Safety Legislation
Defines the constructor’s and owner’s role in construction site safety and accident prevention.
Environmental Legislation
Defines the constructor and owner’s roles in construction site environmental accountability.
Construction Estimating 2
Focuses on estimating wood-frame, steel, and above-grade concrete structures, particularly in multi-family and commercial projects. Also introduces PlanSwift Estimating Software. Requires a minimum grade of 50 in BLDT 1041.

Graduates typically begin in roles like project coordinator or junior project manager. The construction industry values training for both immediate success and to address the shortage of qualified personnel, and completion of this program meets the educational requirements for the Canadian Construction Association's Gold Seal designation for qualified site superintendents, estimators, and project managers.
