Program Overview
The Road Area Manager Certification Statement of Completion is a program that provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to work as Road Area Managers. The program includes six online courses that cover topics such as soils, aggregate and pit management, survey design phases and traffic engineering, and highway construction and drainage. Students must earn a minimum passing grade of 75% in each course to complete the program.

The Road Area Manager Certification Statement of Completion is a bundling of six courses that build students’ knowledge in road area management. The courses were developed in partnership with the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) and have recently gone through a comprehensive initiative to update content and to revise the delivery model from distance education courses to online courses available through BCIT’s educational platform, the Learning Hub. The Road Area Manager Certification Statement of Completion, includes the following courses:
- AMRC 1011 – Soils, Aggregate and Pit Management
- AMRC 1012 – Survey Design Phases and Traffic Engineering
- AMRC 1013 – Introduction to Highway Construction and Drainage
- AMRC 1014 – Development Services and Traffic Management Principles
- AMRC 1015 – Ministry Communications
- AMRC 1016 – Highway Maintenance Agreement
Assessment:
A minimum passing grade of 75% is required.
Teaching:
This program is offered on a course-by-course basis. Students register for each course individually and may undertake studies in any term (Winter, Spring/Summer, or Fall). Courses are offered through online learning.
Careers:
This program is designed to prepare students for careers as Road Area Managers. Road Area Managers are responsible for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of roads and highways. They work with a variety of stakeholders, including government agencies, contractors, and the public. Road Area Managers must have a strong understanding of engineering principles, as well as project management and communication skills.
Entry Requirements:
Formal application to the Statement of Completion is not required. Upon successful completion of the courses, email the program contact with your full name, student number, and mailing address to be issued a Statement of Completion.
